The Pleasure Gardens at Hope Bank. Honley's Paradise Lost

An Illustrated Talk by David Cockman

    Tuesday 26 September 2017 at 7.30pm.

At the end of the 19th century John William Mellor created a kind of inland Blackpool pleasure ground with fun fair rides, two lakes with a steamer, a bandstand, bowling green, etc.

With a growing local population with limited incomes and leisure time, Hope Bank provided entertainment for thousands of local people for over half a century. It survived until 1956 when the land was sold to Brook Motors.

Local historian, David Cockman hopes there will be people present who will remember visiting Hope Bank as children and who will be able to share their memories and even bring along any photos of those visits.

    Entry £5 (no booking required).

    Light Refreshments will be served.
