The Holmfirth Flood of 1852

A Film Produced and Introduced by

Mike Wade

In 1852 Bilberry Reservoir burst, flooding the Holme Valley and causing the deaths of over 80 people.

The Illustrated London News reported: ‘A more complete wreck, a more melancholy scene …. has never been beheld. The streets were filled with broken furniture, carding machines, huge iron boilers, bags of wool, …. The grave-yards had their dead dislodged, and their contents borne again to the doors of the living.’

The film, made by Mike Wade with art work specially created by Jenny Hinchliffe, focuses on the human suffering caused by the criminal negligence of the reservoir owners.

The evening begins at 7.30pm with an entrance charge of £5.00. Light refreshments served.

DVD copies of the film will be available at £10 each.
