Notes for Transcribers

For many years Society volunteers have been transcribing parish register (and other) information to  support the publication of booklets as a major resource for Family Historians.

In recent years emphasis has shifted towards data being available over the internet and the Federation of Family History Societies has negotiated contracts with Findmypast to facilitate the addition of Society data to the Findmypast (FMP) web site. as well as being an addition resource for Family Historians this facility provides an additional revenue stream to support Family History Societies.

In order to prepare data for an FMP submission it is necessary to format that data as per the FFHS/FMP contract. Changes in the design of the initial transcription process will, as well as supporting the continued publication of booklets, improve the quality of data submitted to FMP.

This change is essential in the Memorial Inscription project and may well be beneficial in other aspects of the transcription process.
